Football Game Preview: Catholic of Pointe Coupee Hornets vs. Berchmans Academy Saints

The Catholic of Pointe Coupee Hornets will square off against the Berchmans Academy Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Berchmans Academy took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Catholic of Pointe Coupee, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Catholic of Pointe Coupee humbled North Central with a 40-6 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Hornets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 291st).

Catholic of Pointe Coupee's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Myka Nippl, who rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries. Edwin Williams was another key receiver, picking up 52 receiving yards and one TD.

Another reason for the win was Catholic of Pointe Coupee's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Kurk Boudreaux was especially locked on to North Central's QB and sacked him 3.5 times. Boudreaux also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven. Catholic of Pointe Coupee received some extra help from Gunner Lejeune, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Berchmans Academy's offense. They were beaten by St. Edmund 60-0 on Friday. The Saints just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

The victory made it two in a row for Catholic of Pointe Coupee and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points over those games. As for Berchmans Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
