Basketball Recap: Iola Takes a Loss

Iola played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Wellsville Eagles, falling 80-49. The Mustangs were down 66-39 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cortland Carson, who posted 15 points. Carson is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Dougherty, who earned eight points and seven rebounds.

Iola has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Wellsville, their win bumped their record up to 5-3-1.

Iola will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Santa Fe Trail on January 30th. Wellsville has already played their next matchup (against Augusta), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
