Basketball Recap: Emily Destafano's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Temple Christian over Faith Christian

Temple Christian was the 50-46 winner over Faith Christian when they last played one another last Friday, but their luck changed this time around. The Temple Christian Crusaders fell 54-42 to the Faith Christian Warriors on Monday. The Crusaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Temple Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily DeStafano, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. DeStafano is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last five games she's played. Charlize Lyttle also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Temple Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Faith Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Green led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 16 boards. Another player making a difference was Lillia Joseph, who posted 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks.

Temple Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Faith Christian, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-11.

Temple Christian will welcome Appalachian Christian School at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Temple Christian is facing Appalachian Christian School at the right time seeing as Appalachian Christian School is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. Faith Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
