Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Roosevelt had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 67-65 win over the Sunnyside Wildcats. This was payback for the Rough Riders, who suffered a 62-54 loss the last time these two teams met.

Roosevelt's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cobi Posas, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Posas' evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Darreon Wheaton, who posted 13 points and three blocks.

Roosevelt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Sunnyside lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being CJ Jones, who earned 27 points. Those 27 points gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Barnes, who put up 18 points.

Roosevelt's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points per game. As for Sunnyside, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-7.

Roosevelt will host Bullard at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bullard has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Sunnyside, they will venture away from home to square off against Fresno at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sunnyside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.
