Basketball Recap: Cherokee Trail Comes Up Short

Cherokee Trail lost against Eaglecrest back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Cherokee Trail Cougars lost to the Eaglecrest Raptors at home by a 66-47 margin. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Raptors are ranked second).

When it comes to explaining why Cherokee Trail lost, don't look at Jordan Mitchell. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 16 on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Mitchell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleb Jensen, who posted nine points.

Eaglecrest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucas Kalimba, who made all 5 shots he took to post 20 points. Jason Noone was another key player, putting up 13 points and six rebounds.

Cherokee Trail's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Eaglecrest, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.

Cherokee Trail wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 72-47 loss against Overland on the 7th. As for Eaglecrest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 80-45 victory against Mullen on the 7th.
