Red Devils finish season 20-0 after a 46-7 mercy rule victory over Vestavia Hills on Wednesday.

Central (Phenix City, Ala.) completed its third consecutive unbeaten season, securing a state championship three-peat with a 46-7 win over Vestavia Hills (Ala.) on Wednesday in the Class 6A-7A final.

The Red Devils ran their win streak to 57 straight games dating back to the start of the 2023 season, the longest active run in the country. Central went 18-0 in 2023, 19-0 in 2024 and finished this season 20-0.

Vestavia Hills (28-2) struck first as Julia Rose hit Alexis Rubin for a 2-yard strike to give the Rebels a 7-0 lead at the 8:19 mark of the first quarter. Central countered, however, with 34 unanswered points to take a 27-point advantage into the break.

Central senior quarterback Mariah Harrison threw four first-half touchdowns, including a 66-yard connection to Amya Brooks, two short scores to Savannah Sevier and a 17-yard strike to Colby Cook. Brooks also ran in a 2-yard score late in the second quarter.

Harrison continued to dazzle in the second half with a 6-yard scoring run midway through the third to bump the score to 40-7. Central forced the high school flag football mercy rule after Lilly Bell ran in a short walk-off touchdown with 4:47 left in the game.

Central’s defense pitched 16 shutouts in 2025 as the Red Devils outscored opponents 231-14 in the postseason.

Vestavia Hills came in with a potent offense with Rose entering Wednesday's game as the state’s leading passer with 6,617 yards and 118 TDs. Three of her targets were in the state’s top 10 for receiving yards. Central held the Rebels to their lowest point total since 2023.

Central’s last loss came against Vestavia Hills when the Rebels beat the Red Devils 26-18 on Sept. 28, 2022.
