Basketball Recap: New Castle Takes a Loss

If New Castle was feeling good fresh off their 66-37 takedown of Oldenburg Academy on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans took a 51-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greensburg Pirates on Saturday.

When it comes to explaining why New Castle lost, don't look at Alijah Turner. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. Turner is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 67% in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Mason Miller, who posted 15 points.

Leading Greensburg to victory were Jacoby Miller and Logan Simpson. Jacoby shot 64% from the field to rack up 20 points and four steals, while Simpson went 6-for-7 en route to 15 points and five assists. Those four steals gave Miller a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Smith, who earned six points.

New Castle's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Greensburg, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Looking ahead, New Castle will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Hamilton Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Greensburg, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Batesville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Pirates' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
