Basketball Recap: John Curtis Christian Falls Short Against Ranked Southern Lab

On Thursday, John Curtis Christian faced Southern Lab in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The John Curtis Christian Patriots took a 54-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southern Lab Kittens. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Kittens apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Southern Lab's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shaila Forman, who posted 19 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Forman has scored at least a third of Southern Lab's points. Jamya Cain was another key player, putting up 14 points.

John Curtis Christian's loss dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Southern Lab, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Mt. Carmel the next time they take the court. Southern Lab will head out to face Mt. Carmel at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while John Curtis Christian will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
