Basketball Recap: Poteet Comes Up Short

Poteet was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 22nd straight defeat. They took a blow against the Lytle Pirates, falling 76-26. The Aggies lost against the Pirates in their previous head to head back in February of 2025, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 80-66 score last time.

Poteet lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Rene Amezquita, who posted nine points.

Poteet's loss dropped their record down to 1-24. As for Lytle, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-10.

Coming up, Poteet will welcome Hondo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Aggies will be up against the Owls' rather soft defense (which has allowed 59.61 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Lytle, they will head out to square off against Cotulla at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Cowboys have now posted at least 55 points in their last 12 games.
