Preview: Chincoteague Ponies vs. Arcadia Firebirds
Chincoteague is 0-10 against Arcadia since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Chincoteague Ponies will look to defend their home court against the Arcadia Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Chincoteague came up short against Northampton and fell 82-70. Chincoteague has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jake Harper, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Harper, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Arcadia's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 73-58 bruising from Snow Hill. While losing is never fun, Arcadia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 155th in Virginia, while Snow Hill is ranked 47th in Maryland).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Zachary Giddins, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Ryheim Pettit, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Chincoteague's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Arcadia, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.
Chincoteague might still be hurting after the 62-39 defeat they got from Arcadia in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Chincoteague avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
