Basketball Recap: Highland Comes Up Short

Highland lost against Valencia last Wednesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Highland Hornets lost to the Valencia Jaguars on the road by a 51-35 margin.

Despite the loss, Highland still got an impressive performance from Rebecca Neal, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 11 points and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Natalie Rodriguez, who posted six points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valencia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jadyn Montoya, who had 11 points in addition to six assists and five steals. Montoya has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Jaiden Montgomery was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Highland has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-14 record this season. Valencia is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.

Highland will challenge Valencia at 6:00 p.m. on March 7th. As for Valencia, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 39-34 victory against St. Pius X on the 1st.
