Baseball Recap: Wood River's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Wood River waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Filer Wildcats. That's more bragging rights for the Wolverines, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ozzie Scherer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 6.3 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Hebert, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Everett Carden, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Wood River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Filer only posted an OBP of .167.

Wood River's record is now 3-1. As for Filer, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Wood River beat Filer by a score of 12-4 later that day.
