Softball Recap: Franklin Central's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Franklin Central won the last time they faced Southport and things went their way on Thursday too. The Flashes' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 14-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Flashes.

Miley Smith tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, August Coons and Adelaide Hubbard did most of the damage at the plate: Coons went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles, while Hubbard went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Hubbard has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Jadyn Tinsley, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Franklin Central lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Franklin Central's record is now 8-6. As for Southport, they dropped their record down to 5-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Franklin Central will square off against Cascade at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. As for Southport, they will head out to square off against Mooresville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
