Basketball Recap: Bethune Takes a Loss

The matchup between Bethune and Lone Star on Saturday hardly resembled the 38-23 effort from their previous meeting. The Bethune Bobcats fell 60-47 to the Lone Star Longhorns. The Bobcats have struggled against the Longhorns recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Loss or not, Bethune got some senior leadership from Ty Morris and Wyatt King. Morris posted 11 points and four steals, while King earned 11 points along with eight boards and three steals. What's more, King also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Lorenzo Trebesch De Perez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Lone Star's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grant Kuntz led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Kuntz also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Lone Star is 6-2 when he posts at least five steals, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Anderson Weathers, who put up 18 points and eight boards.

Bethune's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Lone Star, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bethune will face off against South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
