Basketball Recap: Yucaipa Piles Up the Points Against Redlands

Yucaipa won the last time they faced Redlands and things went their way on Thursday too. The Yucaipa Thunderbirds breezed by the Redlands Terriers to the tune of 60-19. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Terriers are ranked 1131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Yucaipa got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jonathan Campbell out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Campbell is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Malik Young, who posted 13 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Yucaipa was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Redlands only racked up four assists.

Despite the loss, Redlands still got an impressive performance from Charlie Schadwinkel, who put up nine points and three steals. Those three steals gave Schadwinkel a new career-high.

Yucaipa's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-4. As for Redlands, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 17 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season.

Yucaipa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-45 loss against Cajon on the 4th. As for Redlands, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-40 defeat against Beaumont on the 4th.
