Preview: Lutcher Bulldogs vs. Vandebilt Catholic Terriers
The Lutcher Bulldogs on the road again on Friday and play against the Vandebilt Catholic Terriers at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Lutcher will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while Vandebilt Catholic is ranked 11th).
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Lutcher, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-40 loss to Belle Chasse. Lutcher was down 49-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Meanwhile, Vandebilt Catholic had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.1 points), and they went ahead and made it 13 last Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Metairie Park Country Day 57-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Lutcher has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Vandebilt Catholic, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Lutcher was dealt a bruising 59-7 loss at the hands of Vandebilt Catholic in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Lutcher avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
