Baseball Recap: Monroe County Comes Up Short

Monroe County extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-14. They lost 18-0 to the Excel Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Excel, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-7. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Excel's part, Cayden Chandler and Mattox Dailey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Chandler pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Dailey tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At bat, Chandler went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Dailey went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Waters, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Trent Williams, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

While Monroe County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
