Basketball Recap: Fort Myers Comes Up Short

Fort Myers lost against Lely back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Fort Myers Green Wave were outmatched by the Lely Trojans and fell 56-17. The Green Wave were down 45-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Monica Mercado was Fort Myers' leading scorer, having posted six points. Amaya Battle held things down on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Zashlie Andris was a one-woman wrecking crew for Lely as she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 steals. The dominant performance gave Andris a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleah Estrada, who posted eight points and four steals.

Fort Myers' defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Lely, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-11.

Fort Myers won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lehigh at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fort Myers is facing Lehigh at the right time seeing as Lehigh is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lely, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll take on Canterbury at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Lely will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: Canterbury will have lost three straight heading into Friday's match.
