Softball Recap: Otsego Has No Trouble Against Wyoming

While Otsego didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-7), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Wyoming Wolves on Thursday as they made off with a 14-6 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.

Cassie Holland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Holland was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, Otsego got a massive performance out of Mikayla Bateman, who went 3-for-5 with seven RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Bateman has hit this season. Addy Lucas was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Otsego kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Otsego's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Wyoming, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Otsego and Wyoming could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 132nd) will meet Kalamazoo Central (ranked 29th) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Wyoming will square off against Northview at 4:15 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (297 vs. 94).
