The Island Coast Gators will square off against the Fort Myers Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Island Coast comes in on four and Fort Myers on three.
On Tuesday, Island Coast narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Estero 6-5. That's two games straight that the Gators have won by just one run.
Hunter Fretwell looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Isaac Lopez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Schoolcraft, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Fort Myers posted their closest victory since February 10th on Monday. They had just enough and edged out North Fort Myers 8-7.
Jerron Moschella looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Ashton Mora was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Michael Magas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Fort Myers pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Island Coast, their record is now 9-1.
Fort Myers' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Island Coast hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for Fort Myers, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Island Coast's hitters?
Everything went Island Coast's way against Fort Myers in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Island Coast made off with an 11-1 victory. Will Island Coast repeat their success, or does Fort Myers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
