Basketball Recap: Wheat Ridge Comes Up Short

Wheat Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat. They were dealt a 59-17 loss at the hands of the Centaurus Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Farmers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 318th, while the Warriors are ranked 158th).

Sky Copeland was Wheat Ridge's leading scorer, having posted six points. Skarlette Arenas held things down on the boards with six rebounds. Julie Jackson took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Ingrid Lorton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Centaurus, going 7 of 12 en route to 19 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Centaurus is 2-1 when Lorton posts five or more steals, but 6-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Rose Pacheco, who posted ten points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Wheat Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Centaurus, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season.

Wheat Ridge has already played their next game, a 64-16 loss against Littleton on the 1st. As for Centaurus, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-30 defeat against Holy Family on the 5th.
