Basketball Recap: Nyla Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Savannah over Claxton

Savannah suffered their closest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Claxton Tigers by a score of 29-26. The Bluejackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 39-25.

Savannah lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nyla Johnson, who posted five points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in steals. Joniyah Bell was another key player, putting up nine points and four steals.

It was another big night for Jayda Jordan, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 boards for Claxton. That makes it 19 consecutive games in which Jordan has scored at least a third of Claxton's points.

Savannah has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Claxton, their record is now 6-13.
