Ferguson is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Thursday. They will take on the Coral Gables Cavaliers at 3:30 p.m. Ferguson is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Ferguson is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 21, 2024 on Wednesday. They lost 10-3 to ABF Academy.

Ryan Alfonso was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Justin Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Coral Gables made sure to put some runs up on the board against Coral Park on Wednesday. Coral Gables blew past Coral Park 10-1. Considering the Cavaliers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Kevon Caffey made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Caffey was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Alex Carmona was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Timothy Negron, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
With the win, Coral Gables broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3-1. As for Ferguson, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ferguson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coral Gables struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Ferguson's way against Coral Gables when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Ferguson made off with a 12-5 victory. Will Ferguson repeat their success, or does Coral Gables have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
