Volleyball Recap: Weslaco Panthers vs. Rowe Warriors
After flying high against Nixon on Tuesday, Weslaco came back down to earth. The Panthers took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rowe Warriors on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Katie Warren paced Weslaco's offense, picking up eight kills. Warren got some help from Madison Martinez and her 11 assists. Martinez also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Sati Alonzo, racking up two apiece.
Rowe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leana Palacios led the charge by getting 17 assists and nine digs. That's the most assists Palacios has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sarai Cano, who had ten digs and four assists.
Weslaco's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Rowe, the win was the fourth in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.
Weslaco wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against McAllen on the 15th. Rowe has also already played their next contest (against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
