Basketball Game Preview: Orange County Fighting Hornets vs. William Monroe Dragons

The Orange County Fighting Hornets just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the William Monroe Dragons at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Friday, Orange County strolled past Louisa County with points to spare, taking the game 62-48. Given the Fighting Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Lions are ranked 386th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, William Monroe waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They took down the Wildcats 57-42.

William Monroe's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Orange County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

Orange County came up short against William Monroe when the teams last played back in December of 2018, falling 57-50. Can Orange County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
