Basketball Recap: Churubusco Comes Up Short

If Churubusco was feeling good fresh off their 71-34 takedown of Hamilton last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Churubusco Eagles took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Garrett Railroaders on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while the Railroaders are ranked 134th).

When it comes to explaining why Churubusco lost, don't look at Ethan Hartsock. Despite the final result, he posted ten points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brayden Bianski, who put up ten points.

Garrett's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Coffman, who earned 15 points along with seven boards and four steals. That's the most rebounds Coffman has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah King, who scored 14 points and six boards.

Churubusco's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Garrett, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.

Churubusco has already played their next game, a 43-38 defeat against Fairfield on the 21st. As for Garrett, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 68-54 win against DeKalb on the 21st.
