Basketball Recap: Gila Ridge's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Gila Ridge needed a changed in momentum after dropping four straight games and they got it from Ella Gettings. The Gila Ridge Hawks narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Kofa Kings 43-40 thanks in part to Gettings, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Another player making a difference was Kayla McCarrell, who posted 15 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Kofa's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Amani Montiel, who went 8 of 19 on her way to 20 points along with six steals and five boards, and Michelle Noriega, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Noriega has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played.

Gila Ridge's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Kofa, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Gila Ridge didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-12 defeat against Pinnacle on the 13th. As for Kofa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 81-29 loss against Red Mountain on the 13th.
