Baseball Recap: Coosa Christian Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Coosa Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They walked away with a 17-13 win over the Cordova Blue Devils. The Conquerors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Angelo Alberghina made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Alberghina was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs while going 5-for-5.

In other batting news, Coosa Christian let Jd Justus and Will Mitchell run wild. Justus scored four runs while going 1-for-4, while Mitchell went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The dominant performance gave Mitchell a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Clete O'Bryant, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Coosa Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Coosa Christian's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6. As for Cordova, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Coincidentally, Coosa Christian and Cordova will both be playing West Point the next time they take the field. Coosa Christian will host West Point at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Cordova will play them later in the day, at 11:00 a.m.
