Baseball Recap: Madison East Takes a Loss

Madison East had lost 17 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-28 to make it 18. They fell just short of the Madison La Follette Lancers by a score of 6-5. The Purgolders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lancers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Grant Haselow was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.

At the plate, Oliver Dugas was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Donovan Hewitt, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Madison La Follette, with the victory, they broke their 11-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-20-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 24th.

On Madison La Follette's side, their victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Evan Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Johnson a new career-high.

While Madison East had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
