Basketball Recap: Academy of the New Church Falls to Blair Academy in First Game of Season

Academy of the New Church unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Blair Academy Bucs on Wednesday, falling 78-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lions have suffered since December 28, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Academy of the New Church lost, don't look at Dior Carter. Despite the final result, he shot 56% from the field to rack up 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Carter is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Smith, who went 8-for-13 on his way to 17 points.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy of the New Church will welcome Pennington at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Blair Academy, they will face off against College Achieve at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
