Football Game Preview: Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders vs. Wayne Eagles

The Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders are taking a road trip to challenge the Wayne Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Palmyra-Macedon has seven straight victories, Wayne has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Saturday, Palmyra-Macedon strolled past Penn Yan Academy/Dundee with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. Those 28 points were actually the fewest the Red Raiders have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

It was another big night for Mason Delmarle, who rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 78 yards. Trey Porpora did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 122 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Palmyra-Macedon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 245 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 245 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Palmyra-Macedon's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.

Meanwhile, Wayne lost to Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton on the road by a 22-6 margin on Friday.

Palmyra-Macedon's record is now 7-0. As for Wayne, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Palmyra-Macedon was able to grind out a solid win over Wayne when the teams last played back in November of 2024, winning 27-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
