Softball Game Preview: Escondido Charter Tigers vs. Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots

The Escondido Charter Tigers will face off against the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Escondido Charter has seven straight victories, Academy of Our Lady of Peace has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Escondido Charter hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Tigers didn't even let Foothills Christian on the board on Tuesday, marking the Tigers' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Lilly Harper made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zaliyah Jones, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Rose Gomez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

Escondido Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Academy of Our Lady of Peace fell victim to La Costa Canyon and their airtight pitching crew last Monday. They came up short against the Mavericks, falling 7-0.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Gehler, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Escondido Charter's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
