Baseball Game Preview: Alma Center Lincoln Hornets vs. Pepin/Alma

Alma Center Lincoln hasn't had much luck against Pepin/Alma recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hornets will square off against Pepin/Alma at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Alma Center Lincoln is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Gilman on Friday as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Jace Paul was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Alma Center Lincoln is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-7 otherwise. Paul was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alma Center Lincoln got a big performance out of Jay Stetzer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Stetzer is becoming a predictor of the Hornets' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-9 when he doesn't). Stetzer Sean also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pepin/Alma, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Eleva-Strum last Friday.

Alma Center Lincoln's record now sits at 4-9. As for Pepin/Alma, their record is now 4-7.

Alma Center Lincoln took their victory against Pepin/Alma when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
