Baseball Recap: Norco Triumphs

Norco won the last time they faced Summit and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Norco Cougars narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Summit SkyHawks 3-1.

Landon Hovermale tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Ryan Farias and Dylan Seward did most of the damage at the plate: Farias went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI, while Seward scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Farias a new career-high in hits. Marcus Blanton also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Norco now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Summit, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Norco will challenge St. John Bosco at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Norco's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so St. John Bosco's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Summit, they will take on Rancho Cucamonga at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rancho Cucamonga will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Summit surely won't give up without a fight.
