Football Preview: Bethel Wildcats vs. Pomperaug Panthers
The Bethel Wildcats will head out to square off against the Pomperaug Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bethel has three straight wins, Pomperaug has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Bethel strolled past Edwin O. Smith with points to spare, taking the game 31-14.
Josh Macomber had a dynamite game for Bethel, rushing for 139 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Macomber's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam D'Amico, who picked up 66 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Bethel's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Matthew Tarzia was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sackshimself.
Meanwhile, Pomperaug didn't have quite enough to beat Bristol Eastern on Friday and fell 17-14.
Bethel's victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-0. As for Pomperaug, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Bethel was dealt a bruising 41-3 loss at the hands of Pomperaug in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Bethel avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
