Volleyball Recap: Benton Zephyrs vs. River Ridge Timberwolves
Benton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They came up short against the River Ridge Timberwolves, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Timberwolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.
Benton was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made River Ridge work for it, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-16, 26-24, 25-16.
Addalee Lawrence paced Benton's offense, picking up six kills. Lawrence got some help from Arianna Stochl and her ten assists. Finally, Lawrence was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high five blocks.
River Ridge found their leader in freshman Layla Gage, who had four aces and three digs. Those four aces set a new season-high mark for Gage. Stella Breuer also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Benton's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for River Ridge, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Benton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Riverdale on the 4th. As for River Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Shullsburg at 7:00 p.m.
