Cesar Chavez has gone a perfect 6-0 against Fairfax recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cesar Chavez Champions will be taking part in a tournament against the Fairfax Stampede at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Cesar Chavez proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 20) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Marcos de Niza 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Champions have posted since March 18, 2024.
Zade Munoz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Munoz was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Cesar Chavez let Eddie Pedroza and Adolfo Pacheco run wild. Pedroza scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Pacheco got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Fairfax sidestepped Ironwood for a 12-10 win.
Like Cesar Chavez, Fairfax also got a great game from a two-way player: Jason Castillo. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Castillo was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Balderas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Jesus Gurule, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Fairfax's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Cesar Chavez, their win bumped their record up to an identical 2-0.
Cesar Chavez beat Fairfax 8-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Cesar Chavez have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fairfax turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
