Basketball Game Preview: Mountain Brook Spartans vs. Gadsden City Titans

The Mountain Brook Spartans will face off against the Gadsden City Titans at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Mountain Brook will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Mountain Brook is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Minor with a sharp 71-51 win. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Gadsden City waltzed into their contest last Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Mounties 46-26. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Mounties are ranked 144th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gadsden City found their leader in sophomore Naomi Wise, who posted 16 points and eight boards. Wise has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Karleigh Sheffield was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Mountain Brook's victory bumped their record up to 23-6. As for Gadsden City, they now have a winning record of 16-15.

Mountain Brook didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Gadsden City in their previous meeting back in December of 2017, but they still walked away with a 58-53 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain Brook since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
