Basketball Recap: Morgan Falls Short of Emery in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Morgan can now relate to. They took a 44-30 bruising from the Emery Spartans on Monday. The match marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Morgan lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Zoe Rockenfield, who posted 12 points along with five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Ashley Burt, who had seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Morgan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Emery's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Katelyn Nielson, who earned 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Nielson a new career-high in blocks (three). Kabree Gordon was another key player, putting up 12 points and five boards.

Morgan's defeat dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Emery, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-10 record this season.

Morgan has already played their next game, a 41-29 loss against Judge Memorial Catholic on the 25th. As for Emery, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-47 victory against Grantsville on the 25th.
