The Soquel Knights will take on the Scotts Valley Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Soquel will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Soquel came out on top against Aptos on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Knights took their contest against the Mariners 7-3.
Luke Shoemaker looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trey Sousa, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gabe Virgallito, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Soquel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Scotts Valley and King's Academy, and King's Academy kept the tradition alive. The Falcons lost 12-2 to the Knights on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Falcons have suffered since March 28th.
Scotts Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Howard, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Isaac Martin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Soquel's victory was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Scotts Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Soquel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Scotts Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
