Baseball Game Preview: Monte Vista Mustangs vs. De La Salle Spartans

For the second straight game, Monte Vista will face off against De La Salle. The Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Monte Vista has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while De La Salle will arrive with seven straight wins.

Monte Vista fell victim to De La Salle and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 6-0.

For De La Salle's part, not much got past Graham Schlicht, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Monte Vista off the board. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Schlicht.

On the hitting side, Alec Blair was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Sullivan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

De La Salle hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in four consecutive matchups.

De La Salle pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Monte Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.
