Hialeah Gardens hasn't had much luck against Southwest recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Hialeah Gardens Gladiators will host the Southwest Eagles at 3:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Hialeah Gardens took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Goleman get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gladiators, who have now won three games by 15 runs or more so far this season.
Jasmine Uz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Uz was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Delania Aleman and Krystal Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Aleman scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Martinez got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was Martinez's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Krystina Martinez, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Hialeah Gardens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .793. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwest). They blew past Coral Park 19-2 on Thursday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Southwest got a massive performance out of Shantell Valle, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. What's more, Valle posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ami Casteleiro, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
The victory got Hialeah Gardens back to even at 3-3. As for Southwest, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hialeah Gardens hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .425. However, it's not like Southwest struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hialeah Gardens might still be hurting after the 20-2 loss they got from Southwest in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can Hialeah Gardens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
