Basketball Recap: Memorial Christian Academy Takes a Loss

If Memorial Christian Academy was feeling good fresh off their 47-27 takedown of St. Mary's last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Memorial Christian Academy Warriors were beaten by Grace Academy 55-24 on Friday. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.

Despite the defeat, Memorial Christian Academy had strong showings from Cody Williams, who posted eight points along with ten boards and four blocks, and Jaden Love, who scored four points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That's the most steals Love has posted since back in January of 2024.

Even though they lost, Memorial Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Grace Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Richmond McIver out in front who went 6-for-11 en route to 15 points and five blocks. McIver's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Canyon Maxwell, who earned nine points along with seven boards and five steals.

Memorial Christian Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. As for Grace Academy, they pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Memorial Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 62-28 loss against Methodist Children's Home on the 10th. Grace Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Community Christian at 7:45 p.m. on February 18th. Community Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
