Softball Game Preview: Lancaster Red Devils vs. Mathews Blue Devils

The Lancaster Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Mathews Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lancaster knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Mathews likes a good challenge.

If Lancaster beats Mathews with 26 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Red Devils blew past Nandua 26-10 on Tuesday. Considering the Red Devils have won five games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ayla Saunders was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Bishoff, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Lancaster always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .837. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Mathews came up short against Lancaster last Tuesday, falling 11-1. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lancaster has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mathews, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Everything went Lancaster's way against Mathews when the teams last played last Tuesday, as Lancaster made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
