Preview: Marie Philip Galloping Ghosts vs. Ohio School for the Deaf Spartans
The Marie Philip Galloping Ghosts and the Ohio School for the Deaf Spartans will face off at 4:00 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Marie Philip was fully in charge, breezing past Tournament Opponent 50-6 on the road. The team accrued 41 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.
Marie Philip relied on the efforts of Stokely Karp, who scored 11 points along with five steals, and Xavier DeLeon, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five assists. DeLeon is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Jeremy Novas was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Ohio School for the Deaf entered their tilt with American School for the Deaf with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Ohio School for the Deaf breezed by American School for the Deaf on the road to the tune of 71-36 on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Ohio School for the Deaf's disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 786th in Ohio, while American School for the Deaf is ranked 51st in Connecticut).
Marie Philip is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. As for Ohio School for the Deaf, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
Marie Philip couldn't quite finish off Ohio School for the Deaf in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 54-51. Thankfully for Marie Philip, Jordan James (who scored 21 points along with four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
