Softball Game Preview: Springfield Blue Devils vs. Boardman Spartans

The Springfield Blue Devils will face off against the Boardman Spartans at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Springfield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison Comprehensive, sneaking past 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.

Meanwhile, Boardman entered their tilt with Riverside on Wednesday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They never let the Beavers get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.

Boardman's victory was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ellie Wymer, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Boardman's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Springfield, their win bumped their record up to 22-9.

Everything went Springfield's way against Boardman in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Springfield made off with a 19-6 victory. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
