Baseball Recap: Poway Titans vs. Vista Grande Spartans
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Augustine, Poway was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Vista Grande Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Titans have posted since May 28, 2024.
Jacob Wilson looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Parker Smith was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Trenton Uyeda also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Poway's record now sits at 4-6. As for Vista Grande, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-5-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poway will head out to challenge Bonita Vista at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Vista Grande, they will venture away from home to square off against Patrick Henry at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
