The Pieper Warriors will be taking part in a tournament against the United Longhorns at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
Pieper is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Canyon just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-2.
Pieper took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 25-13, 19-25, 21-25, 25-13, 15-12.
Cayleigh Monson put forth a good effort for the losing side as she had ten digs and three aces.
If King wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played United, they should've done a better job of containing Anakaren Garcia. The Longhorns were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Mustangs on Tuesday with plenty of help from Garcia, who had 20 digs and four aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last eight games she's played.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: United took every set by at least ten points. The match finished with set scores of 25-7, 25-15, 25-9.
United's win came from a few key players Pieper will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ashlet Figueroa, who had five aces and four digs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (18). Another player making a difference was Ana Chavez, who had 11 digs and four aces.
They weren't the only good server: United was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
United is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Pieper, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Pieper beat United 2-0 in their previous matchup back in August of 2023. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
