Volleyball Recap: Ethan Ponce Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Hollister

On Tuesday, the Gilroy Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Hollister Haybalers.

Gilroy was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (106-98), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 12-25, 16-14.

Gilroy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Ponce, who had 13 digs and one assist. Another player making a difference was Alex Serrano, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Gilroy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Hollister, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.

Looking ahead, Gilroy will venture away from home to face off against Mt. Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hollister, they will welcome Scotts Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
