Kennedy Catholic hasn't had much luck against Auburn Riverside recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lancers are taking a road trip to square off against the Ravens at 7:00 p.m. Kennedy Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Kennedy Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Stadium. The win was some much needed relief for the Lancers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Izzy McDonough was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Audrey Mowat, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, while Auburn Riverside put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Auburn. The Ravens put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 14-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Ravens in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won eight in a row.
Makenna Vircks looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Sloan Cross was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Ashley Langford also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Auburn Riverside hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburn struck out eight times.
Auburn Riverside pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Kennedy Catholic, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Kennedy Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Auburn Riverside struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Kennedy Catholic might still be hurting after the 17-2 defeat they got from Auburn Riverside in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
